"The way we think about health has been revolutionised by our growing evidence of how the body works. Yet the way most of us approach learning remains the same as it has for centuries. Spaced repetition is just one of the ways we can become evidence-based learners, allowing us to learn more in less time" (Gupta, 2008)
What is it?
Microgram's mission is to make our students better writers and clearer communicators without the use of plug-ins or a reliance on technology to correct their mistakes. Instead of leaving errors for our machines to fix, students will learn proper grammatical structures in a mobile, interactive learning environment.
Simply put, Microgram consists of lessons that allow users to practice specific grammar skills through micro learning modules.
These can be determined by an instructor, or recommended based on a diagnostic assessment the user can complete through the application. For more control, instructors and institutions can have larger scale use of the platform to monitor their user's progress, areas of opportunity, areas of strength, and send out lessons that users should focus on. Say for example a teacher realizes that their class needs practice with commas to avoid comma splices. Before the papers are even handed back, they can send out the lessons ahead of time for a flipped classroom model. This allows for feedback to be implemented immediately and have immediate consequences, rather than waiting for all the papers to be marked, getting handed back, creating a lesson or worksheet, and then teaching the lesson. Further, an instructor can see if a student consistently makes the same mistakes, and can directly address the behaviour.
